Encrypted at rest
Every page, version, comment, brainstorm, note, codex entry, agent memory and pen-name voice is encrypted with AES-256 before it's stored. The key is kept outside the database, so the database and its backups only ever hold encrypted text. Book titles and structure, like chapter names and the outline, aren't encrypted.
Never used for training
Your writing never trains an AI model. We never sell it or share it.
We don't read it
Your writing is only decrypted for you, the collaborators you invite and the agents you use. Nobody at Authr opens it unless you ask for help and agree.
AI on your terms
Authr's agents run on Ollama Cloud, which says it processes prompts only to answer the request, doesn't store them afterwards and doesn't train on them. If you connect Claude or ChatGPT, your own account terms with those companies apply.
No AI for any book
One switch in a book's settings, on every plan, keeps that book away from every AI: Authr's agents, Claude, ChatGPT, API keys and outside bots.
Leave any time
Export a full backup of any book on every plan (JSON), plus Word and Markdown. Pro adds EPUB and print-ready PDF. Delete a workspace or your whole account from Settings → Privacy & data: it's erased right away, and encrypted restore points that still hold it expire within 30 days. Export files you download are removed from our storage after a day.
Sealed off between accounts
No account can see or touch another account's writing. We test that across every feature.
Safe in transit
HTTPS everywhere. You sign in with Google, so we never store a password.
Questions
Can people at Authr read my book?
No. Your writing is only decrypted for you, the collaborators you invite and the agents you use. Nobody at Authr opens it unless you ask us for help and agree to it.
Is my writing used to train AI?
No. We never train on it, and the provider that runs Authr's agents says it doesn't either. We never sell or share it. If you connect Claude or ChatGPT, your own account settings with them apply.
Is it end-to-end encrypted?
No, and we won't claim it is. Your writing is encrypted before it's stored, but the app decrypts it to show it to you and to run the agents you ask for. If you want a book kept away from every AI, switch on No AI in that book's settings.
What's not encrypted?
Book titles and structure, such as chapter names and the outline. Everything you write inside them is encrypted.
What happens when I delete my account?
It's erased right away. Encrypted restore points that still hold it expire within 30 days, and then it's gone.
